ow it s time to look at the most important package you ll be dealing with when writing games with Mobile Internet Device Profile (MIDP), version 2.0 or greater: the package javax. microedition.lcdui.game.*. In this chapter, I show you the main parts of a MIDP game by explaining the code of an example game called Tumbleweed. The game (see Figure 3-1) involves a cowboy walking through a prairie jumping over tumbleweeds. It s kind of a silly game, but it illustrates most of the basics you ll need when writing more serious games. As in the earlier chapters, I ve included all of the code necessary to build the example, and you can download the code from the Source Code/Download section of the Apress web site (http://www.apress.com) with all its resources.

All is well and good, but the main question still persists: what URL does the client use when wanting to make a query The answer is that it depends entirely on the nature of the application The Associated Patterns section outlined that the synchronous interface generates data similar to that of the Content Chunking pattern And the asynchronous interface generates data like that of the Persistent Communications pattern This means that the URL must resemble what the Content Chunking or Persistent Communications patterns recommend For the search example, the proposed URL would be http://mydomaincom/search The choice of the /search identifier is arbitrary and is representative of the task being accomplished Previous patterns such as Content Chunking and others have outlined various ways of defining a URL identifier The /search identifier is used by the controller to execute the local clients for both Amazoncom and Google.

As usual, the application starts with the MIDlet class. In this case, my MIDlet subclass is called Jump. This class is essentially the same as the MIDlet subclass from the previous chapter, so if you d like a detailed explanation of what s going on in it, please see the Using the MIDlet Class section in 2. dataBindingUnderTheHood-binding-generated.as creates a class to behave as a wrapper for the UIComponent property. We will explain this code in more detail when we cover implicit data binding.
