In this chapter you ve seen the structure of a MIDP application (a MIDlet), and how a MIDlet is controlled by the application management system. Following the example in this chapter, you can write a basic game including a simple graphical user interface. These ideas alone are all you need to write a lot of fun games such as the Maze game. But there s plenty more you can do to make your game more fun and exciting, as you ll see in the chapters to come.

The previous example shows that properties get binding using the PropertyWatcher method, which looks for changes in the data. Additionally, the mxmlc 4.0 compiler creates the dataBindingUnderTheHood-generated.as class and using the IWatcherSetupUtil interface class it calls the setup method that enable data binding.

The client would have to do the heavy lifting of figuring out what to send and how to process the response This is wrong because the client should not need to do that If a client were to do the heavy lifting, the JavaScript script would become large, complicated, and hard to maintain The solution is not to let the client do the heavy lifting, but to let the controller and local clients do it Specifically, the controller has the following responsibilities: Defining the views available to the client Defining the resources used by the client Executing and managing the local clients used to call the remote servers.

dataBindingUnderTheHood-generated.as also sets the binding through the mx.binding.BindingManager, which calls the UIComponent executeBindings to ensure binding is done through the life cycle of the component.
